Camp Communication
What is a Speech Language Pathologist?  A Speech Language Pathologist is a person who holds a BA in Communication Disorders and Speech Science and a MA or MS in Speech Language Pathology.  This is a dual degree in both Education and Medical practices.  The SLP holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the national governing body The American Association of Speech Language and Hearing- ASHA.  This allows the SLP to provide services in both school settings and in clinical/home health settings.

How can a Speech Language Pathologist help me or my family?  We can help in many ways.  In today's world we are saving adults and children we were unable to save before, so people who have suffered a stroke, traffic accident, or birth deffect can recieve services from an SLP that will help them communicate their needs, to learn, to read, to write, and to maintain their independence.

In the school setting, I work with children who have learning disabilities, articulation disorders, fluency issues, autism, deaf or hard of hearing, or who have auditory processing issues.  With children birth to three, I work on developmental milestones, oral motor muscles, developmental language and articulation, and swallowing and feeding issues.  The ealrier we identify and provide services, the better the outcome for the child.

With adults, I work with patients who have had a stroke, truatic brain injury, deaf or hard of hearing and swallowing.

We identify, make up a plan of care, then begin the plan.
